Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using MapleSpike's API, web portal, MCP tools, or SDKs ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

MapleSpike provides a unified API for Canadian government data, including but not limited to: parliamentary committees, lobbying registries, procurement records, regulatory filings, court decisions, and statistical data. The Service includes REST API access, MCP server integration for AI agents, TypeScript and Python SDKs, and a web-based data explorer.

All data served by MapleSpike is sourced from official Canadian government publications and is licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada or equivalent provincial open data licenses.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service to violate any Canadian law or regulation
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent rate limits or authentication
  • Resell or redistribute raw API data without attribution as required by OGL-Canada
  • Use the Service for automated scraping that exceeds your plan's rate limits
  • Submit queries designed to extract personal information about identifiable individuals
  • Use AI-generated content from the Service without verification for factual accuracy
4. Plans & Billing

Free tier includes 1,000 API calls per month with no credit card required. Pro ($49/mo) and Business ($199/mo) tiers include higher limits and additional features as described on our pricing page.

Paid plans can be cancelled at any time. Changes take effect on your next billing cycle. Refunds are issued at our discretion for service outages exceeding the stated SLA.

We accept credit card, Interac e-Transfer (Canada), and cryptocurrency (BTC/ETH) for annual plans.

5. Citation & Attribution

Every API response includes a citation block with source name, source URL, SHA-256 content hash, and license type. You are responsible for including appropriate attribution when using MapleSpike data in publications, reports, or AI training datasets.

The required attribution format is: [Source name], retrieved [date] via MapleSpike. OGL-Canada.

6. Data Accuracy Disclaimer

While MapleSpike uses SHA-256 content hashing and trust-score validation to ensure data integrity, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of government source data. Every response includes a quality object with freshness and confidence metrics.

For legal or regulatory decisions, always verify data directly with the original source using the provided citation URL and content hash.

7. Limitation of Liability

MapleSpike is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the Service, including but not limited to decisions made based on data served by the API.

Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the changelog and emailed to registered users at least 30 days before taking effect.
